Hello and welcome!
I’m Sally, a food writer, journalist, editor and mum from Brisbane, Australia. When I’m not chasing after three little balls of energy, you’ll find me playing with words, reading, cooking, eating, and dreaming about travel and all things Italian.
I’ve always loved to eat and I’ve dabbled in the kitchen since I was a child (my grandma still has the menu of a dinner party I cooked for her aged 11 or 12). But it was while living in Sicily and Florence as a student that I truly began to appreciate what an important role food has in our lives. I went on to work in magazines and spent my days writing, editing, eating out, and reading every cookbook and food magazine I could get my hand on. A stint in Singapore exposed me to another food-obsessed culture, and I relished the opportunity to learn more about Asian cuisine. Fast-forward to 2017 and things are a little different.
Now I have three kids and eating out is a special treat. To my shock and horror, two of my kids are fussy eaters. One survives on little more than air (she’s now six and I’m persevering, but it drives me crazy). I still love to cook, but the reality of feeding a family means I’m always looking for simple, fast and child-friendly recipes.
Here at Scribe & Spoon, my mission is to inspire parents with simple recipes, family travel tips, and fascinating books and cookbooks. I want parents to feel confident introducing their children to the joys of interesting food and far-flung travel. Plus, there’ll be profiles of other interesting writers, travellers and foodies.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
…and procrastinate by:
– drooling over endless food photos on Instagram
– reading about restaurants, travel and food writing on Twitter
– pinning photos of stuff we’ll never make on Pinterest
– living vicariously on Facebook
